  1. Claim: We shouldn't notify parents
evidence: The study showed that only 43% of minor girls told a parent themselves before seeking an abortion. Only 55% of those 14 and under did so. The author of the study, Stanley Henshaw, testified at a trial that the use of the study to claim that 60% of teens involve a parent before having an abortion is "entirely incorrect."
counter claim:Warf also told you that almost all teens who don't involve a parent involve another adult. Wrong again. The study said only 52% of those who didn't involve a parent involved another adult, including their adult boyfriend, which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that these girls are getting disinterested advice.

As for why teens don't tell, few teens say that they

  2. Claim:Healthcare professionals know that young teens are safest when a parent is involved in their medical care.
Evidence:The study said only 52% of those who didn't involve a parent involved another adult, including their adult boyfriend, which doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that these girls are getting disinterested advice.
Reasoning: "In almost all cases, the only reason that a teen-age girl doesn't want to tell her parents about her pregnancy is that she feels ashamed and doesn't want to let her parents down."
Counter Claim:But you write, Miriam, that most teens already tell a parent. The "studies" about how many teens tell a parent before an abortion is actually one 16-year-old study, which opponents of parental notification have been misrepresenting for years.

  3. Claim: " Parents should not be notified if their child wants to get an abortion."

Evidence: "The study showed that only 43% of minor girls told a parent themselves before seeking an abortion. Only 55% of those 14 and under did so."

Reasoning: Not many minor girls told their parents about the pregnancy and the abortion.

Counterclaim: "The study showed that only 43% of minor girls told a parent themselves before seeking an abortion. Only 55% of those 14 and under did so."

  4. Claim- Teens are safer when parent's are involved in their healthcare.
Evidence- Only 43% of teens told their parents before getting an abortion.
Reasoning- This isn't good for the parent, kid, or family.
Counterclaims- Kids feel better and safer when their parents don't know but it still isn't best for the kid.

  5. reasoning:As for why teens don't tell, few teens say that they fear abuse. Dr. Bruce Lucero, who has performed more than 45,000 abortions, wrote in 1998, "In almost all cases, the only reason that a teen-age girl doesn't want to tell her parents about her pregnancy is that she feels ashamed and doesn't want to let her parents down."

  6. The claim for the article is that teens should be able to get an abortion without parental consent. The evidence is that 52% of teens didn't tell their parents that they were seeking an abortion. The reasoning is that some teens are scared to tell their parents because they fear that they might be a disappointment to their parents and they fear abuse.

  7. Claim: Parental consent is not really needed for teens to receive sexual health services because that would stop teens from admitting them having such services optional to them.
Evidence:"The study showed that only 43% of minor girl told a parent themselves before seeking a abortion".
Reasoning: The studies show how girls feel more confident in making decisions like that with their parents since they have an option in deciding things by themselves.
Counterclaims: Having parental consent is better because their parents know what's best for their kids.
